“Shame dies when stories are told in safe places.” – Ann Voskamp
We are wounded in relationships, and we heal in relationships, too.
A compassionate individual therapist is a great person to begin your healing journey with. However, the goal of therapy is to expand the healing space and tools from the therapy room to your day-to-day life in the outside world. Group therapy and workshops are ideal places to gently begin or continue that expansion.
You will have the opportunity to build community with people who have similar lived experiences, express feelings and concerns in judgment-free spaces, and receive genuine care and support from others who can deeply empathize with your struggles.
All groups and workshops I offer support trauma and abuse survivors in creating fulfilling lives and relationships that are less burdened by the legacies of their pasts.
Groups
Group therapy is truly transformative.
Life is stressful, and it is comforting to have a consistent place you can go where you receive support from people who are uniquely positioned to understand you — people who have been in your shoes themselves. Many individuals who attend group therapy experience reductions in shame and isolation, improved communication skills and emotional expression, and deeply enhanced personal insights due to the other group members’ larger frame of reference. One of the greatest gifts of group therapy is the lived experience of the other members. Think of it as individual therapy but with many therapists in the room!
In group therapy, all participants are encouraged to share and participate in ways that meet them where they are in their journeys. I offer longer-term, ongoing processing groups that allow members to form strong bonds and dive deeply into larger issues, such as abuse-related core beliefs and shame.
You might be nervous about being vulnerable with other people. This is a common feeling and one that all group members share at first. You’re not alone! I am committed to creating healing group spaces where privacy and respect for all group members are of the utmost importance. You will be glad you gave yourself the chance to experience the support of a nurturing group!
Workshops
Trauma-informed workshops offer a supportive space to address specific concerns that arise from the legacy of trauma and abuse. Individual therapy is one hour every week or even less frequently for most people. If you find that hour goes by quickly and there never seems to be enough time to explore an issue as deeply as you would like, workshops are for you! They provide the time and space to gently peel away the layers of a topic to achieve greater insights, deep catharsis, and clarity regarding how to move forward in your healing journey.
Workshop attendees share similar lived experiences and desires to explore themselves deeply. It is very common to feel nervous going into a workshop, but please remember – you won’t be the only one feeling that way! I maintain respectful spaces for participants to grow and heal together.
